ABOUT US
In 2010 Jason was diagnosed with cancer and that started their homesteading journey. After six months of Chemotherapy and in remission Jason asked his Oncologist "what now?" The oncologist told him to go back to your normal life.
That is when Jason and Lorraine decided to take control of their own health. They grew up with the standard american diet and new nothing about real food. They started reading labels, books and cutting out processed foods. Then they started growing a garden in their little backyard in Southern California. Growing there first tomato felt empowering! Not to mention the amazing flavor homegrown vegetables have! Something that neither Jason or Lorraine had any experience with. They did not grow up with a garden or chickens or any farming experience. They felt like the only way they are really going to know what is in there food is if they grew it themselves. They were homesteading in the city!
After they started a garden they started questioning other things like their careers. Lorraine worked in the fashion industry and Jason was a computer drafter. A few years after chemo Jason and Lorraine had their daughter and she left her career to be a stay at home mom to homeschool their daughter. After 16 years in an office Jason wanted out. He wanted to work with his hands and live a more natural life out of the office. It took a good six years after cancer to slowly change there mindset. Jason and Lorraine started living more minimally like becoming a one car family and getting rid of stuff in the house and paying off debts. Eventually Jason would quit his office job with no job waiting when he left. He wanted to work for himself, grow amazing food and start a homestead with his family. It was a huge leap of faith!
In 2016 Jason, Lorraine and their four year old had sold most of their belongings plus their first home and left the city, there family, friends and everything they new to follow there dream. They moved across the country to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. They started small on an abandoned 1 1/2 acres with a mobile. Six years later they outgrew that place, built it from nothing and moved to there current 14 acre property.
Jason documents their life on YouTube to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. They also teach workshops, online classes and sell pastured poultry and pork through there website. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey! Keep Moving!
