Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on YouTube videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!
Was born and raised in Southern California where he and his wife met in High School. He received his B.A. in Industrial Design and M.B.A. in Business. Over the years he fell in love with the outdoors, hiking and running in the nearby mountains. In 2009 he was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) (gilbertjasonblog)and did six months of Chemotherapy. He has now been in remission for over 6 years. Having had cancer was the turning point in his life where he started thinking about nutrition and being active. He started hiking more, running marathons and trails to recover from the effects of Chemo. With his wife Lorraine they started eating better and eating real food. Eventually they started growing food in their backyard to learn what it would take to grow real food. They started the Inland Empire Food Swap where people come together to exchange real homemade food with the local community. All this was in the hopes of one day having land to grow food and raise animals with the respect they deserve. On his spare time he likes hiking, running, woodworking and spending time with his two girls.
My name is Lorraine, to some you may know me as PlainJaneLorraine. I haven't always been plain. In fact, I used to work in the fashion industry, surrounded by beautiful fabrics and lots of high end colorful clothes. Then one day I decided to leave the fast paced and stressful corporate world and follow a path that I would have never once thought I would be journeying.
You can always find me in the kitchen, we cook from scratch. I don't watch tv, but my favorite YouTube channel is an 18th century, reenactment cooking show.
I am a woman that loves and serves God. I enjoy reading a good devotional, but I struggle with reading the Bible alone. Something I am striving to get better at daily.
The plan is to homeschool our daughter, but we don't plan too far ahead, we take one day at a time.
I am an introvert. But a passionate one. I can go from quiet to emotionally expressing how we can all work together to better the world in seconds. I am motivated and inspired very easily.
Only good music is played by real human beings (anything with a banjo or acoustic guitar). I still have a regard for fashion, but I have a different approach to textiles and functionality. A conversation for another day.
